Nordstrom Sale | Affordable Picks Under $25 and $50

We loved the affordable Nordstrom Sale beauty picks, so we’re back with some more! This time, we’re giving y’all NSale picks under $25 and $50. Just because you’re a college student doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of this sale. Honestly, I’ve had a pretty hell-ish week, so blogging has really been my escape. Summer classes are hard because they tend to be really extensive and dense. I really enjoy one of my classes, hate another, and have no idea what’s going on in the other. I’ve really enjoyed online shopping for this post (and myself) as a form of relaxation, so I hope y’all enjoy! Nordstrom Anniversary Sale | Beauty Under $50

Y’all it’s that time of the year again. It’s the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and DAMN have they stepped it up this year. As I aggressively filtered through the sneak preview, I realized WOW I can actually afford some of this stuff. There’s something about being a college student and shopping at Nordstrom that doesn’t match. I searched far and wide to come up with a list of affordable beauty specials that even college students can afford.

Nordstrom Sale

If you don’t know, every year, brands come up with special kits/palettes/sets exclusive to Nordstrom that are some serious deals. I have a love/hate relationship with makeup shopping because Sephora is overwhelming, but also I need to get shade matched. I found things that will work with every skin tone AND under 50 bucks, with a lot under 25! Just scroll over the product to get more details.

Laura Mercier Twist and Pout is the perfect neutral lipstick for every skin tone that is super work appropriate. It’s a perfect addition for the “nearly a real adult” section of your makeup.

LORAC Refined Romance Cheek and Eye Palette  is only 19 bucks(!!!), and you’ll never travel with another palette again! The colors go from super wearable and work appropriate to night out glam. It’ll be just one less part of your suitcase that you’re overpacking.

Stila Stay All Day Set not only includes their legendary liquid liner (which normally is the price of the whole set, but also has an amazing liquid lipstick that is ready to end up in your purse with the other 900239483 nude lipsticks in there.

Living Proof’s ‘Perfect Hair Day’ Set is the most expensive item on this list but also so worth it. I’ve used a sample of the shampoo and conditioner and can’t make the plunge to by the normal size, so this set is perfect! Also, y’all, this dry shampoo though. You can use it after a workout and it looks like you took a shower. Which means, if you’re like me, you don’t have to plan your workout schedule around your hair washing days.

Beauty Blender set is an absolute steal because it’s 20 bucks for one but for 35 you get two and a cleaner. Blending sponges work wonders for your foundation but carry a lot of bacteria. With this set, you’ll be set for a long time. See what I did there.

Mario Badescu ‘The Icon, The Cult Favorite & The Hero’ Set is probably the item I’m most excited about. It’s an absolute steal with each product highly loved. Kylie Jenner swears by the drying lotion to get rid of any acne overnight and I concur.

What are you going to get from the Nordstrom Sale? Do y’all want to see more picks from the sale?

Houston Eats | Tacos A Go-Go

My main food groups are queso and tacos and today  we are going to talk about both. Living in Austin, I’m surrounded by delicious tacos, but I miss that when I’m back in Houston. I ventured out to the Menil and Tacos A Go-Go for a fun date with my boyfriend. All in all, I definitely recommend Tacos A Go-Go before a night out in midtown!

The decor in this place was out of this world. It was beautiful and eclectic. Serious gallery wall #goals. It’s just so fun and colorful and is aesthetic from the walls to the tables to the seating.

I got the the chicken taco and queso, which were good. As a queso connoisseur,  I’d give the queso a solid 3/5. The chicken taco was definitely an average chicken taco, but the sauce was a good mix of sweet and savory. After eating, I definitely felt full and I didn’t even finish the queso! Houston Eats | Taco A Go-Go | gold&hearts

Oliver, on the other hand, got three . The barbacoa is their famous one that appears on many “top tacos in the country” lists. Another one of their specialities is the “puffy” taco thats in a fried shell. The third taco is a simple beef taco. When I asked him they were, he responded they were good especially the puffy one. Glad he provided me with such a  detailed response.

Where’s your favorite taco joint? What do you like in your tacos?

Rep Your Major Monday | Special Education

Every Monday, we’ll have people we know (blogger friends and real life friends) talk about their major to help other college students learn about areas of study and possible career paths. We want everyone in college or hoping to go to college to recognize that there’s more at your university than the major your parents want you to succeed in, but a major that you feel comfortable and happy with. We’re picking people who feel passionate about their major and want to show our readers that being miserable in a biology class and other pre-med requirements isn’t the way to live if you want to be learning about our government’s structure and law.

Today we have the lovely Faith Dumais who blogs over at Faith’s Girly Life and studies Special Education and the University of North Carolina Charlotte. She blogs about her life and has this amazing series called Blogger Interviews.

What’s your major and potential career paths in that field?

I’m a Special Education major. The most typical career path would be to teach students with special needs at a public or private school. However, there’s also opportunity to work with these students in their own home or in a hospital (if the child requires it).
What made you choose your major?
I chose  Special Education because I’ve always wanted to a teacher. In 7th grade, my mom worked as a teachers aid in the Special Education department of the middle school I went to. I spent a lot of time in their classroom and found how much I liked the kids. From there, I decided to pursue Special Education.
What are common misconceptions about your major?
The most common misconception about my field is actually the students themselves. People often think the kids are too difficult to work with- but they can often be the sweetest you’ll ever meet!
What made you confident that your major was right for you?
I’m confident because in December I started consistently babysitting a little boy who has Down Syndrome. I spend so much time with him and I have so much fun. He shows me I made the right decision!
What advice do you have to people who want to go into your field?
My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you have the heart for it before you get in too deep. Special Education isn’t something just anyone can do- & that’s ok. But you want to make sure you’re  the right person to do it.
What’s your favorite major class that you’ve taken?
I haven’t taken a ton of classes for my major yet. But I just love learning about different conditions or disorders I may encounter!
Thank you so much, Faith. We’re so happy to have you on the blog. If anyone else wants to be a part of this series, please email us at

Outfit Staples | Summer

Summer Outfit Staples | gold&heartsHey y’all! We are definitely deep in the summer here in Texas. It’s been 100 degrees every day, and I refuse to leave my house. Today I wanted to share with you my summer uniform. I’ve been in love with four pieces of clothing and accessories, and I wanted to give you a few of my top picks at all price points. I definitely am all about my clothes touching me the least amount possible because of the heat, so this outfit perfectly captures that.

Scroll over the photos for more details!

White t-shirts from summer are a no-brainer. White tops are an outfit staple for anytime of the year, but they best options usually come out in the summer. These shirts help me stay cool, but look a bit more put together than a plain t-shirt or tank top. Honestly, I’m still on the search for the perfect drape-y soft white top and probably will be forever.

I ~finally~ have figure out boyfriend jeans. I bought a pair from Zara that are super flattering and really comfortable. Boyfriend jeans just have more of a chilled out vibe and, debatably, are more comfortable than skinny jeans. I’ve very surprisingly been into distressed denim too. My style is very clean, but the distressed look makes me feel really Cool Girl™.

I think the theme here is pretty clear, but I’ve been loving a good chunky heel. I’ve been looking into buying more casual heels, which is pretty hard when you love  black as much I do. However, my quest continues. I really just want a kinda mid length heel that elongates my leg and is super comfortable. Living in Austin, I know I’ll have to walk up or down a hill wherever I’m going, so I want to be in reasonable shoes.

So, I recently bought the middle watch of these three, and I’m in love.  Menswear inspired watches are really in right now. I’ve been into minimalist watches for almost a year now, but I finally bit the bullet this month and bought one! The Daniel Wellington Sheffield watch in 36mm is the perfect size watch face and doesn’t slide up and down my arm.

Based off of these outfit staples, I’ve made my summer “uniform” that people have been loving. I hope y’all got some great outfit inspo from this (because I definitely did looking up all these cute things). Remember, if you want to know where any of these things are from, just scroll over the picture!

What are your summer essential pieces? What have you been loving this summer?

Beauty | Fastest Five Product Face

Always in a rush? Here's the easiest five product face! It takes about 3 minutes! - gold&hearts
It’s been a long time, but we are back and blogging with a vengeance. I wanted to do a quick catch up post with my current favorite products. I’ve had a busy semester, and I feel like I’m always in a rush. I’ve perfected the art of getting ready in the back of an Uber. I can easily carry these five products in my small purse and still look put together, and I’m ready to go in three minutes!

Always in a rush? Here's the easiest five product face! It takes about 3 minutes! - gold&hearts

I’ve been working on being more punctual, so this five product face has helped me cut the fat out of my makeup routine especially for more of an every day look.

  • Smashbox “X-Rated” Mascara is my new mascara staple. It makes me look like I just got eyelash extensions because they look naturally long and fluttery.
  • NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil in Black is one of the only drugstore eyebrow pencil that I have found that are a true black. I have naturally black hair making every other color look super artificial. Also, I love the slanted tip!
  • Sleek Face Form Palette in Dark is the perfect powder bronzer/highlight trio. While in a rush, these palette is a contour, highlight, and eyeshadow. I got this from London, and it is pretty hard to get a hold of in the US unfortunately.
  • NARS Creamy Concealer in Biscuit has been my savior these days as I’m still recovering from my finals lack of sleep. I use it under my eyes and to cover any acne and acne scarring to even out my skin tone.
  • Illamasqua Precision Ink in Abyss Gloss Black lasts all day and even the next day  (oops) and stays super dark. It’s basically painting your lids with the blackness of your heart. Even done sloppily, my eyeliner makes me look super put together.

What are your five most essential products? Do y’all recommend any other multi-purpose products?
